Differences in Carnival Cruise Ships? – Carnival Cruise Liner Comparison

So you want to know the difference between carnival cruise ships? Your probably planning a cruise or have already booked one and you want to know which ships are better or worse than the others. I will go through some of the technical aspects like their sizes but I am going to spend the most time on the types of activities that each ship offers as I think that is what most people are interested in when looking for the differences in Carnival ships.
The good news is that Carnival really doesn’t have bad ships. The oldest ship in their fleet was launched in 1990 with most of them being a lot newer, and even the old ones have been renovated and remodeled several times so you probably wont notice the age of any ship you sail on.

As for the sizes, there aren’t what I would call significant differences. The largest Carnival ships are in their Dream class, including the Carnival Breeze, Magic and Dream which are 130,000 tons and can carry around 3600 passengers. The smallest ships are from the Fantasy class including the Carnvial Elation, Paradise, Inspiration, Imagination, Fascination, Sensation, Ecstasy and Fantasy. These are about 70,000 tons and can carry around 2050 passengers. They are all huge ships and even if you are sailing on one of their smaller ships you certainly wont think of it as small.

All Carnival ships have the same basic features and activities, the differences can be thought of as upgrades mostly. I will start out by listing the things that every single Carnival Cruise ship currently offers.

As far as free food all Carnival ships have a Seaday Brunch restaurant, Signature Dining when you will probably eat dinner most nights, Casual dining including the 24 hour sit anywhere buffets with all kinds of delicious options on the Lido deck, the taste bar which has complimentary appetizers, a coffee bar, The final restaurant available on all ships is the chefs table, which includes a tour and a several course private meal. This one will cost you extra though around a person.

Other than those options which are on all carnival ships there are a number of other dining experiences which vary from ship to ship. Let’s start with the free ones:

Guys Burger Joint by celebrity chef Guy Fieri as well as Blueiquana Cantina, a Mexican restaurant are available on the following ships

Carnival Breeze, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Freedom, Carnival Glory, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Triumph.
The Mongolian Wok a design your own stir fry bar is available on the following ships:

Carnival Breeze, Carnival Dream, Carnival Ecstasy, Carnival Elation, Carnival Fantasy, Carnival Fascination, Carnival Freedom, Carnival Imagination, Carnival Inspiration, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Magic, Carnival Paradise, Carnival Sensation, Carnival Splendor, Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Valor.

Seadogs a hot dog joint is available on the Carnival Breeze, Carnival Magic and Carnival Sunshine.

Fat Jimmy C-side BBQ
Only available on the Carnival Breeze

Pizzeria Del Capitano
Only on the Carnival Sunshine
Before we get to the restaurants available on select ships that will cost you extra money lets look at the ones that are in between, the following restaurants have free items on the menu as well as paid items.
Cucina Del Capitano is a nice little Itallian restaurant has a free luch menu but the full service dinner is extra its on the Carnival Breeze, Carnival Magic and Carnival Sunshine.
Ji Jis Asian Kitchen has a menu with free items and some that will cost you its currently only available on the carnival sunshine.
Moving on the paid restaurants on select ships. Most but not all Carnival ships have a steak house where you pay per person for a delicious upscale meal. It is available on the Carnival Breeze, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Dream, Carnival Freedom, Carnival Glory, Carnival Legend, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Magic, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Pride, Carnival Splendor, Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Valor.
Bonsai Sushi a reasonably priced sushi restaurant is available on the Carnival Breeze, Carnival Legend and Carnival Sunshine.
There is also an upscale coffee house as well as a Shake bar which are only available on the Carnival Sunshine.
Before we move away from food let me give you my top 5 list of ships just in terms of additional eating options other than the standards.

I got to 29 seconds into your video and totally disagree that Carnival does not have a bad ship..we had a horrible experience of the Carnival Fascination. This was our very first cruise and there was nothing to do and thank GOD I booked us a balcony so we could at least watch the water as time passed. The food was horribly bland and a few mornings for breakfast I thought oh God, not the same stuff again. I'm not a coffee person but the coffee on the ship was so horrible we stopped ordering it. From this experience…you get what you pay for (did Norwegian next and went all out due to the experience on Fascination to find that the experience was FAR superior…doing RC next). I am watching this video to find out if Carnival does have other good options. I will be positive and state that the service employees were top notch.

OK…:44 seconds, Fascination was like walking into the 70's short of the shag carpet. But I'm still watching. The Fascination was remarkable stable though.

How accurate is this video, being that nearly two years have passed?
